Still Life Paintings - After Matisse These paintings were all done during the period of my recovery from an accident. Concurrently I was reading a biography of Matisse. I was physically unable to do my usual work, and these really helped get me grounded and working again. They are so cheerful. It was actually pretty difficult for me to "paint in Matisse's style". I didn't anticipate how much I would need to learn, and how different it is from my own style. The red striped chair in this painting is typical of the types of chairs Matisse seemed to favor.
