I spent several years when I first began painting, painting the houseboats in Sausalito, and the Bunker emplacements around the San Francisco Bay area. These were very exciting projects for me. At that time I did not have my studio at the ICB in Sausalito, and I painted most of these works plein air. This was hard because of all the geometry (often while standing on a rocking dock) and perspsective problems to solve. In those early days, I painted rain or shine. The cold was sometimes daunting.
